Greenwoods Curriculum

Greenwoods nursery follow the Early Years Foundation Stage observation cycle alongside a loose implantation of ‘planning in the moment’. Staff will observe their children and scaffold their learning whilst following  their interest and extending their learning to challenge their individual development.

Observations

Observations including photographs and videos are uploaded onto the child’s learning journey on our Family app.

Assessments

We carry out summative assessments on the children twice within the academic year. Alongside parents evenings and in depth handovers after your child’s day at nursery.

The Three I’s

As recently highlighted within the updated OFSTED handbook, we at Greenwoods know the importance of creating intentions to extend children’s learning. We then implement our intentions within the nursery and assess the impact it has had on both the children and the nursery as a whole.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is used within Greenwoods to plan, observe and assess the children, ensuring their individual needs are met. Our setting follows the 4 main principles of the EYFS ensuring that:

  • Every child is unique

  • Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships.

  • Children learn and develop well in an environment where their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and yourself as a parent and/or carer.

  • The framework covers the education and care of your child within the early years setting, including children with additional needs.

Did you know you can upload observations of your children at home?
This can be carried out by clicking on your child’s learning journey on the Famly app. You’ll then see a tab saying “new observation”, often based in the right hand corner on your screen. From this you can then upload pictures, videos and descriptions of what your child is up to
Let us know when you have uploaded one and we can accept this on your child’s journal This is a beneficial way for your child’s key person to see a further extent of what your child is capable of, and help us introduce your child’s interests at nursery.
